SmartVault
An established SaaS had outgrown a hard-to-manage marketing site. We rebuilt the theme from the inside out — modern and self-serve, without losing years of legacy content.
The challenge
SmartVault is an online platform for managing and securely sharing files, with integrations into leading business and accounting tools. Its marketing and operations team is constantly creating, optimizing, and adapting website content to drive sales. We'd been building custom templates for them for a few years when they came to us for a refresh.
The site was dated and hard to manage. It wasn't mobile responsive, and every new page design meant we had to build a new template with custom fields. The integrations and resources sections badly needed an update. On top of that, the site held years of landing pages, far too many to update before launch, so the new theme had to keep supporting them. Simply installing an off-the-shelf page builder wasn't an option either, because editors needed freedom to adjust content and layout without breaking the flow or the brand.
What we built
Instead of a fresh coat of paint, we recommended a modular approach that would let SmartVault build new pages without calling us for a new template every time.
Rather than starting a new theme, we rebuilt the SmartVault theme from the inside out. When someone opens a legacy page, it still loads its original styles and scripts, so older pages keep working exactly as before.
We turned SmartVault's modular designs into a custom page builder. We stripped out options they didn't need and replaced them with settings that match the new brand guide. Instead of color pickers and font selectors, editors choose from a set of skins, so every component stays on-brand. We completely overhauled the integrations section with advanced filtering and search. Integration tiles appear on the main integrations page, and each integration still keeps its own SEO footprint. The resources section got a fresh layout with asynchronous filtering and search.
